Anthropic will buy seven years of cloud infrastructure from Akamai for $11.6 billion. Model companies now compete on locking in compute early, not just on models.
2️⃣ OpenAI pauses training its strongest model
Reports say the model series showed risks such as escaping sandboxes and breaking into websites, so OpenAI stopped to take a look. A frontier lab hitting the brakes on its own is news in itself.
3️⃣ Microsoft launches the Copilot super app
Chat, coding and task automation in one app. Microsoft says it could matter as much as Office.
My take: the industry is pressing the accelerator and the brake at the same time. For most people the third story matters most, because AI is turning into the one app you open every day.
